About the Columbian Whitetail Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
The Columbian Whitetail Deer (Odocoileus virginianus leucurus) is one of the three commonly recognized subspecies of whitetail deer North America. The male Columbian Whitetail Deer is often referred to as a ‘Buck” producing antlers that are fully grown and shed annually. Columbian Whitetail Deer are found in the Northwestern United States – Oregon and Washington most prominantely. Deer have a specialized stomach that allows them to eat plants, shoots and grass as well as various mushrooms that are otherwise toxic to humans.
